Gaoth Dobhair as a club kinda remind me of Donegal senior team in the 2000's, lots of talented players, but they are lacking focus and commitment required to fulfil their true potential and also lacking luck on the injury front. Seeing that list of players you listed in addition to the likes of Odhran MacNiallais, the McGee's etc, they had an unreal panel of talent for club level, they could be All Ireland contenders regularly if things would fall right for them. Emmigration is also a big factor. I know a lot of clubs get simiarly impacted though. But yeah by my count, the 2018 team had 8 players who played for Donegal at senior level. Neil McGee Eamon McGee Daire O'Baoíll Odhran McFadden-Ferry Michael Carroll Odhran MacNiallais Cian Mulligan Kevin Cassidy Many of the others played underage for the county. It seems silly to say, given that they won an Ulster, but they might feel that they underachieved. They certainly had the quality to win more Donegal championships, but seemed to fall away a bit after the 2019 3 game (or was it 4?) saga with Naomh Conaill Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9476 - 23/07/2024 13:30:26 2560901 Link 0 |
Gweedore got to the County Final last year and beat Mac Cumhaill's on the way. Gweedore finished above Mac Cumhaill's in the League although that won't have any bearing come Championship. Mac Cumhaill's need to beat one of the big 4 teams in the Championship knock out stages to be considered in the top 4 I think? Gweedore got to the final last year beating Dungloe, Ardara and a young Mc Cuhaills team in the knockouts. They lost to Ballyshannon in the group. And they are down a serious amount of players this year from last year. 2 Mc Gees, Odhran Mc N, Carol, etc I agree. Mc Cuhaills need to beat either Kilcar or Gwedore to enter the big 4. Yeah potential is one thing, but until it can be backed up with a win against one of the big guns I'll reserve judgement on MacCumhaills. They're certainly doing a lot of things right though in fairness to them.

And only one of them playing. Daire O Baoill. From 2018- Gweedore have had some turn around in players. Maybe 4/5 starters since then and maybe 4/5 squad players. Whereas Glenties have added to their panel you could say. The hunger is real in Glenties and you could see that from young Roarty Saturday. 3 minors on the squad. Fair play to them tickets (Donegal) - Posts: 103 - 23/07/2024 18:26:40 2561033 Link 0 |
I felt that 2018 team had the potential to push on for an All Ireland Club title in 2019, but I know they lost coach Michael Boyle, who was rumoured to be the driving force behind their success.

With Jason Campbell home for Kilcar championship run surely Jim could sway him to stay on. Would be a great option full forward or especially if a team is going long against us as Galway did. Teams will target that next year but with Campbell around they might think twice

I think 2019 put Gweedore back 2/3 steps. A bit like St.Micheals when they lost the senior final v Glen. St.Eunans will fancy themselves with their county players back and fit along with Caolan Ward who will be chomping at the bit to play again. tickets (Donegal) - Posts: 103 - 24/07/2024 17:17:44 2561296 Link 0 |
St eunans with a fully fit squad should be a match for anyone though there's seems to quite a drop off in their underage talent and don't think there is much coming through over the next few years. Teams do often need that to reinvigorate things and will be interesting to see can they push in without this.

Can't for the life of me understand how Ultan Doherty never got a call up for the squad this year. A teak tough tight marking defender is something we are crying out for. Has done the job at club level on the top forwards time and time again. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 975 - 24/07/2024 20:38:35 2561333 Link 0 |
All Ireland Final Ticket breakdown 2023 Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1185 - 25/07/2024 13:15:39 2561484 Link 0 |
That 58,110 isn't the competing counties, that's to every county in the country. I think the competing counties between them get approximately half that figure, somewhere around 14,000 each. So, that leaves approximately 1,000 for every other county board to distribute amongst their clubs.

In 2014 I think Donegal got allocated around 19000 tickets, then later got an additional 3000 allocated by GAA. Not sure if that included Season tickets though.

I had to think about those figures. That was the days of the minor finals, and both Donegal and Kerry were in both, hence the increased allocations. And the 3,000 extra were probably returned from Kerry. It would be interesting to find out where the extra tickets from the minor counties are allocated now. I doubt the competing counties get them all.

If you are looking for a ticket ask a former gaa president. That's about a 100 tickets per former president!!
Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 775 - 26/07/2024 12:19:02 2561710 Link 0 |
Yeah that Former Presidents allocation seems excessive, especially when the Matchday teams only get 148 tickets between them, that's 74 tickets to each team for family. The matchday players and backroom teams should get more tickets for their families to attend their big day in Croke Park. I'm not against the following getting tickets, but maybe a smaller allocation to them and also smaller allocation to Counties who aren't competing. I remember in 2012 sitting beside an aul boy from Tipperary who just travels up to every All Ireland, said he had no interest in Football, just travelled because it was a unique final. He added nothing to the atmosphere, left 15-20 minutes early to beat traffic. THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE REVIEWED. - Term Tickets = 2381 tickets - Not even sure what this refers to. - Schools = 2224 tickets - Not sure how this is divided up. - Former GAA Presidents = 771 tickets - Excessive allocation. - Third Level = 240 tickets - Rounders Handball = 212 tickets - Excessive allocation. - Local residents = 200 tickets - Excessive allocation, should give them All for one vouchers. Widely rumoured for years now that these tickets go to property owners who haven't lived around Croke Park for decades. - Camogie = 140 tickets - Excessive allocation, especially compared to Ladies Football allocation of 100 and Rounders Handball allocation of 212. - Ladies Football = 100 tickets - Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1185 - 26/07/2024 13:45:57 2561757 Link 0 |
Term Tickets are the 10 year tickets. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 683 - 26/07/2024 14:08:08 2561763 Link 0 |
As regards local residents tickets only one person from each household can register for the draw. It must be their primary residence, can be resident owner or resident tenant. Certainly if the resident of a rental property in the area does not register then the landlord might be on the list. However with a really robust residents association in the area I'd say the tickets go to genuine residents. They are also stamped as "residents" tickets. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 782 - 26/07/2024 14:26:36 2561776 Link 0 |
I have to look back and laugh now, again, st the comments of Mark McHugh on the eve of the Ulster Final. I'm surprised the winning speech wasn't "what do you think of that Mark McHugh!!!" ThroughTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 36 - 28/07/2024 17:34:05 2562199 Link 0 |
