Christy Ryan
(Glenveagh Construction, Delaware County)

Christy has played Gaelic football all his life - both at home in his native Donegal and in the colours of the Donegal club in Philadelphia.

The Glenveagh native has two sisters and three brothers, one of whom is none other than Tommy Ryan, a star of Donegal's historic All-Ireland winning campaign of 1992!

Renowned mainly as a halfback or half forward, Christy won nine Philadelphia championships and four North American titles in the colours of Donegal.

Back home, he also represented the county at minor and U21 intercounty levels and won an All-Ireland B Colleges medal (in the esteemed company of Charlie Mulgrew) with St Eunan's of Letterkenny in 1978.

Although he is now in the autumn of his career, the proprietor of Glenveagh Construction still lines out for the Donegal club in Philadelphia on a regular basis.

Christy has been living Stateside since 1984 and established Glenveagh Construction in Delaware County (where he resides) fourteen years ago. A general contracting firm, Glenveagh Construction specialises in both residential and commercial developments, employing approximately 30.

The busy company founder and owner makes a concerted effort to return home to Ireland at least once a year.

Indeed, the bug has well and truly bitten. As Christy enthuses: "Once the GAA is in you, it's in you! I'm married to an American girl and sometimes I think I must have her heart broken!"
