as i said rising standard of tyrone clubs and the decline of kerrys rock beaten by div 4 team few years back and a weaker rock team almost beat a senior team this year with 12 players speaks for it self

We had the final leaders debate in northern Ireland last night and not a single thing was said about the State's education system.

Shocking in light of the above ;D

That said, after one attempt to make the same general point as you and the responses I got I thought to myself if people can't see that there needs to be something put in place at a National level then I ain't wasting my finger moving time getting bogged down in debating it. Though I will be putting a motion forward at our next County AGM for St Galls and Cargin to take year about at being graded in the Junior Championship."
F**k it offside, every club bar Senior and Intermediate Champions should request to play in Junior next year....probably still not win it mind you! lol

If G/G aree a 'Senior' club as you put it how come it took them 5 years to win the Kerry Junior Championship and yet won the AI in 1 go

Could it be that other Div 1 teams beat them to it?

Rathmore who have been in Division 2 for the last 3/4 seasons have managed to get to the last 2 Kerry Senior Semi Finals in a row, and stop Dr Crokes attempt for 5 Kerry Seniors in a row

That is some going for an 'Intermediate' side, they'd destroy the competition if they 'decided' to compete in that grade........................

Not surprising at all. Here in Antrim it is mostly Div 1 teams who play Senior though there will always be Div 2 teams each year who enter the Senior - the teams who have been either in and out of Div 1 over recent years and are at the standard. Similarly you will get the odd year where a Div 1 team enters the Intermediate as they may only be in the top Division that year and following trends will be back in Div 2 the next year. Same applies with Div 2/3 and Intermediate/Junior.

So for a Div 2 team to enter and do well in the Senior Championship wouldn't surprise me in Antrim so not sure why that would be surprising in Kerry. If a Div 3 team (our lowest league) entered the Senior Championship I would be very surprised if they got near the opposition and not surprised if they failed to score in the 60 minutes. Or if our Div 1 team entered the Junior I would be very surprised if any of the other teams would get anywhere near them.

I suppose it is about understanding what do the GAA class as Junior standard, Intermediate standard and Senior standard or is there such thing. The problem isn't within individual Counties as to how they want to grade their clubs and competitions but trying to get some sort of level standard when it comes to the Provincials and ultimately AI.

How do the different structures within counties impact on county team selection for the inter-county competitions?

Most say very sour grapes from Tyrone, maybe its different here in Limerick but league means nothing,my own club are in division 3 in the league but are a intermediate team that in the last two years had lost the county final and quarter final beaten by the winners, but in the league a poor junior team had beaten us but in championship we have beaten division one teams.

No where did the Antrim man say he wanted a change of format for all other counties. He has just stated that at the minute it's an unfair system.

Can you not just be logical and think this through and admit that there is a unfair advantage In a team playing league football against the best teams in county Kerry in seniors and playing their championship football against junior teams.

Lord save us!! How can u not see that this would have some advantage!!"
If there are Junior teams in Div 1, then there must be non-senior teams outside Div 1, meaning that Div 1 would be weaker than if there were only senior teams in Div 1. Therefore you could also argue that the best teams in county Kerry who are playing Div 1 football against non-senior teams are at a bit of an unfair disadvantage when it comes to improving their football in general, because the quality of their opposition is not as good as it should be. This would then mean that the Kerry county team would suffer as a result. However this hasn't happened.

There will be 3 Senior Teams in Division 2 next year , also as I pointed out Rathmore's success whilst being in Division 2 for the last few years should tell people not take County League status to heart

No sour grapes in Tyrone especially in the Rock, we fully congratulated Glenbeigh-Glencar on the day. We didn't get the rub of the green on the day few key decisions went against us but all in all it was a very good game of football and both teams deserve a lot of credit. The fact the Glenbeigh-Glencar were Div 1 didn't worry anyone around home as we knew on our day we are fit to beat the bottom 3-4 teams in the Senior league in tyrone so it was comparable and so it proved. All the best to Glenbeigh-Glencar I hope the push on and do well in Kerry intermediate.

Fair play Rockman, ye got to play in Croke Park and done the club proud on the day, there are an awful lot of club players who can only dream of that. It would have been great to see the title go north as it has had too many trips to Kerry, just as the hurling one has to Kilkenny and Cork, but fine margins meant it wasn't to be.

Great post Rockman and hard luck on the game, certainly wasn't very much in it at all

As regards G/G I think they have a great chance to win the Intermediate next year as I think the Kerry Junior was a psychological barrier for the last few years which is now gone and the fact there isn't a huge difference between the good Junior teams and Inter. Templenoe got to Inter final in 2016 and but for a rake of injuries would have made it back-to-back Junior and Inter Titles

Furthermore G/G got a home draw in Round 1 against a team they definitely should beat which is only 2 games from a final after that
